A Word on Time of War

War is not a “necessary evil.” It is evil. It represents a profound ethical and moral failure. And in the end, the ones who suffer most are innocent civilians.

When bombs fall and cities are destroyed, it is not generals or politicians who bear the greatest cost, but families, children, and ordinary people whose lives are shattered. The unavoidable question remains: who is responsible for their deaths?

Over time we have learned to rationalize war. We have even learned to excuse the suffering it causes. But the naked truth is this: those who remain silent—those who refuse to publicly condemn war and fail to hold political leaders accountable—share responsibility for the consequences.

At the very least, each of us should express our opposition to war to our elected representatives. Even more importantly, we must elect leaders guided by moral conviction—leaders who possess a consistent ethic of life and who recognize the sacred value of human life everywhere.

As a pastor, it brings me deep sadness to see how many who claim to follow Jesus remain silent in the face of the horrors of war carried out by our country and by other powerful nations. Silence in the presence of such suffering is not neutrality; it is a failure of moral courage.

Times like this require that pastors and church leaders raise our voices in opposition, educate those under our care, and encourage our church members to call and write their U.S. senators and representatives. At the very least, it requires that we reflect on our own position and response to the sin of war.

As followers of Jesus, we can’t summit to the ways of the world: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Rom. 12:2

The first Hispanic woman bishop in the United Methodist Church, Bishop Carcaño is a tireless advocate for immigrant dignity and LGBTQIA+ inclusion. With decades of pastoral and episcopal leadership across the country, she brings prophetic clarity and pastoral wisdom to this moment.

Eddy Alemán

General Secretary of the Reformed Church in America, Rev. Alemán has planted churches, developed Hispanic ministries, and continues to shape theological leadership nationally. His work bridges academic depth and practical church leadership.

Sister Norma Pimentel, MJ

Executive Director of Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley, Sister Norma is nationally recognized for her humanitarian leadership at the southern border. Founder of the Humanitarian Respite Center, she embodies compassion in action and has served over half a million migrants.

Together, we will pray, discern, strategize, and strengthen one another for the work ahead.

Faithful Resistance

Our President, Rev. Carlos Malavé, represented LCNN at the recent Faithful Resistance public witness in Washington, D.C.

In a powerful ecumenical rally, leaders from across Christian traditions gathered to affirm dignity, justice, and compassion for immigrant communities. Through worship, prayer, and congressional engagement, we proclaimed that faith demands moral courage and public solidarity.

Night of Worship: Minneapolis, MN

After weeks marked by tension, hurt, and uncertainty in our community, LCNN is honored to sponsor a Night of Worship and Unity in Minneapolis.

Partnering with local pastors, we are gathering the body of Christ to pray, worship, and declare hope over our city.

This special evening will feature Daniel Calveti, along with Alberto Arriaza and Nanci Méndez, as we proclaim:

“Un Solo Cuerpo, Una Sola Misión.”
